Physicians and Midwives is following this guidance for the prevention, diagnosis and management of their pregnant patients and / or patient attempting to conceive who have traveled or plan to travel to anyone of the following countries (Central and South America, the Caribbean) in the past two weeks: Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
If you are pregnant and have traveled to one of the above countries in the past two weeks please contact our office so we can further discuss possible symptoms of Zika virus, testing for the virus if symptomatic and / or recommended ultrasound screening for patients already pregnant. We do not recommend that you travel to any of these countries if you are pregnant. If you are trying to conceive and plan to travel to one of the listed countries please employ strict mosquito bite prevention measures to include: wearing long pants and long sleeves and using Deet containing mosquito repellent when outdoors.
