Catherine received her diploma in nursing from Mercy Hospital of Nursing in 1968. Married to an Army pilot, she worked in various nursing positions in Europe and the United States gaining experience in maternal and childcare nursing. Catherine returned to the United States in 1988 and enrolled at Georgetown University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1992 and her Masters of Science in Nurse-Midwifery in 1995
