David C. Giammittorio, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. is the founder and managing partner of the
 

Collaborative Practice. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia. His internship was at M.C.V. and his residency at Providence Hospital, Washington D.C. Board certified and with twenty years experience, he is an acknowledged expert in natural childbirth and an area authority on the use of midwifery in collaborative practice.

Mary E. Cutting, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. has been in practice since 1984. She attended
 

medical school at the University of Virginia, and completed her residency at Georgetown University Hospital. She is board certified and has been in private practice for over twenty years.

Habibollah Ahdoot, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. was educated at the University of Tehran
 

Medical College and completed his residency at the Washington Hospital Center. He is board certified and has delivered thousands of babies at Alexandria Hospital over the last twenty-five years.

Kenneth Ahdoot, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Kenneth Ahdoot, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. graduated from
 

Georgetown Medical School, Washington D.C. in 1999. He did his residency at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. A native of Alexandria, he returned to this area to join his father, Dr. Habib Ahdoot, in practice at Physicians & Midwives in 2003.

Dr. Ahdoot and his wife, Samantha (a pediatrician) are kept busy raising their young children, Isaac and Ruby.

Denise Cunningham, M.D.
 

Denise graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1995.  Dr Cunningham did her residency at Triple Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Dr. Cunningham was in the Army and practiced in Seoul, Korea for three years and DeWitt Arm Hospital at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia for three years prior to joining Physicians and Midwives in 2004.  She is married and has two daughters Katie and Madeline.

Karen B. Gonzales, MS, CNM received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1971
 

at the University of Virginia. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Colorado and received a Masters of Science in Maternal-Child Health from the University of Colorado in 1977. Karen moved to Virginia in 1980 and worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Alexandria Hospital for eleven years. She left the hospital in 1991 and enrolled at Georgetown University where she received her Masters of Science in Nurse-Midwifery in 1994.

Catherine B. Armstrong, MS, CNM received her diploma in nursing from Mercy
 

Hospital of Nursing in 1968. Married to an Army pilot, she worked in various nursing positions in Europe and the United States gaining experience in maternal and childcare nursing. Catherine returned to the United States in 1988 and enrolled at Georgetown University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1992 and her Masters of Science in Nurse-Midwifery in 1995.

Patrice Valle, MS, CNM
 

C. Patrice Valle, graduated from midwifery school at the University of Minnesota in 1983 and has since delivered over 2500 babies. She was raised in San Antonio, Texas and Panama and is bilingual. She spent the first 7 years of her midwifery career in San Francisco and then moved to DC. She had her only son Ian, at home in San Francisco in 1988. She enjoys creating art, dancing, metaphysics, cooking, entertaining, walking and laughing. She is married to Mark, her high school sweetheart.

Sue Magenheimer, MS, CNM
 

Sue Magenheimer, MS, CNM received her Bachelor of Science for nursing in Toronto, where she was born and raised. She moved to the United States and worked as a labor and delivery nurse in Texas and Boston. Sue received her Masters of Science in midwifery in 2001 from the University of Rochester. Sue is married to John, an environmental engineer, and together they enjoy running, hiking and biking.  She is a new mother to her son Joey.

Elizabeth Itote, CNM
 

Liz has been employed at Physicians and Midwives since June, 2006. She was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. Liz attended Hesston College, a 2 yr Mennonite college in the heart of Kansas, in January, 1998 where she earned her first Nursing license in May, 2000. Liz then attended Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas where she earned both a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree and a Masters of Science in Nursing degree. Liz received her Certificate in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Kansas school of nursing in August, 2005 and became ACNM Certified in February, 2006.

Prior to joining the practice, Liz completed her practicum in Women's Health, Labor and Delivery at Hasting Indian Medical center in Tahlequa, Oklahoma, Wesley medical center and Via Christi in Wichita, Kansas. Liz also participated in a Medical Mission to Kenya in October, 2005 with Mercy and truth medical missions of Kansas City, Kansas.

Liz has enjoyed working in Medical and surgical care, long-term care, home health, hospice and traveling nursing.

Margie Wentzel, MS, CNM, WHNP
 

Margie Wentzel joined Physicians & Midwives in 2005. After graduating from the Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing, she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from George Mason University, her Master of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia, and her post-masters’ certificate in Nurse-Midwifery from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. Her first job was as a Junior Volunteer in the Maternity unit at Alexandria Hospital! Prior to becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife in 2006, she was a Labor and Delivery nurse, childbirth educator, nursing educator, and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Margie is a Certified Aunt, with seven nieces and nephews, and enjoys reading, baking bread, vacationing in Florida, and especially, catching babies.

Angel Miller, MSN, CNM
 

Angel Miller is a certified nurse-midwife who has been practicing nurse midwifery for over ten years. She received her diploma nursing degree in 1986 at St. Vincent Cahrity Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She gained extensive experience at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Women’s Health and as a cardiac nurse at the renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation, as a key participant of the Heart-lung transplant team from 6 years. Angel has provided a comprehensive range of services in women’s health, including many years experience as a labor and delivery nurse. She has worked with a diverse population from large urban cities to rural communities. She prides herself in offering women education and choices in their health care throughout their lifetime. She enjoys using herbal and natural therapies in women’s health. Angel and her husband, Randy, have two sons, Rhett age 33 and Shea, age 26, and “Bear” their 4 year old German Shepard who enjoys one on one attention and playing at every chance he gets. Angel enjoys a variety of music, loves dancing and swimming and enjoys sports as a spectator, especially basketball.

Pamela Becker, CNM
 

Pamela Becker joined the staff of Physicians & Midwives in September 2008. A graduate of Northwestern University School of Nursing, Pam earned her Masters of Science and certification in Midwifery from Columbia University in 1986. Since graduate school, Pam has practiced as a midwife as well as held various positions in women’s health as a nurse practitioner. After living in Vermont for 15 New England winters, she convinced the family to resettle to Virginia in 2002. Here her husband, a stockbroker, can indulge his passion for civil war history. When not at work, Pam loves to experiment in the kitchen, watch her kids compete in their sports, study holistic medical therapies and play with her badly behaved 70 pound puppy.

Lisa Barnes, CNM
 

Lisa Barnes grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended nursing school at Brigham Young University. She received her Masters in Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health from the University of Utah in ay 2008. She then moved to Alexandria, Virginia and joined Physicians & Midwives as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She has also worked as a nurse in Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, and Newborn Nursery. She has volunteered as a nurse in Bolivia, Argentina and Swaziland South Africa. In her free time she enjoys running, reading, traveling, anything outdoors, and especially being with her family and friends. She has three sisters, one brother, and nine nieces and nephews. Her younger sister Katie, who has down syndrome, has been very special and happy part of her life. She is passionate about providing midwifery health care and empowering women during their childbearing experiences and throughout their lives.
