The Physician & Midwife Collaborative Practice was born out of the notion that as medicine and technology advances, “care” should still be the foundation of providing medical care to women.  We focus on providing compassion, education and support in tandem with the best medical course of action for the individual

By bringing together board-certified OB/GYNs, midwives, and nurse practitioners, we are able to provide our patients with high-touch care in combination with the latest medical technology.  This may translate to planning for a natural childbirth with a first-time mother or creating a comprehensive treatment plan, including exercise for a woman who is struggling with menopause.

We also do our best to keep this level of care accessible, by offering multiple providers, five office locations, extensive office hours, and 24/7 on-site staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital.  In order to respond efficiently and accurately to your needs, we also maintain electronic medical records and offer centralized support staff who can access your lab results and quickly set appointments.

During Pregnancy our patients generally see more than one doctor and or midwife and often at different office locations as well. We find that our patients are very time sensitive and our team approach with multiple locations all linked by a state of the art Electronic Medical Record accomplish our goal of keeping the CARE in medical care.

Forget what you think you know about Midwives!  “Midwife” is translated “with woman” and there have been midwives since the dawn of time.  At Physicians and Midwives, our midwives are Certified Nurse Midwives with undergraduate and advanced degrees in nursing and midwifery, as well as extensive training in Women’s Health and Obstetrics. You may schedule all of your routine GYN care with the midwives, including, but not limited to annual exams with PAP smear, birth control consults and family planning visits.

Based on preference, our patients may visit a physician or midwife for routine gynecological exams and general issues, such as vaginitis, cystitis or family planning. Our physicians will often work more closely with complex issues involving more medicines or surgical interventions. However, the beauty of our practice is the ability to migrate between physician and midwife care based on your health and needs.

Well-Woman Exam

Well Woman Examinations are a proactive way for you and your doctor to maintain your good health by identifying risk factors, discussing lifestyle choices, and catching potential problems before they become serious issues. You can expect to talk about contraception and sexual health, receive age- or circumstance-appropriate physical exams and tests, and talk with your physician about anything that concerns you. And you can be sure we use the most advanced assessment techniques to optimize the accuracy of your tests.

In Office Sonogram

Our In-Office Sonogram Unit offers most of your needed Sonography in our offices. Using state of the art ultrasound equipment, you and your partner can share in the experience of seeing your baby grow and mark the milestones in their development as your pregnancy progresses.

24/7 In-Hospital Care

Our practice keeps one of our physicians and one of our midwives assigned solely to the hospital twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Instead of having to run back and forth to the office, our providers are able to quickly respond and focus on obstetrical and gynecological emergencies without interruptions. Through our electronic health records, we also have complete access to our patients’ charts and medical history on-site at the hospital.
