Midwives have been a part of the delivery experience for recorded history, in fact physicians arrived later on the scene in the 1700′s. While midwifery may mean different things to different people our midwifery staff are all Certified Nurse Midwives that have had rigorous formal training and passed national certification exams as well as licensure in the State of Virginia.
While we approve of a homey supportive environment for our deliveries we do not feel that home delivery to day is the proper choice for your delivery. We have a wonderful combination of home surroundings and very sophisticated technology and support staff if needed at INOVA Alexandria Hospital. In fact we keep a midwife and doctor stationed “in house” 24/7 to manage your labor and respond to any emergencies.
As well as prenatal care and delivery, our midwives see patients for routine gynecological care including yearly visits, contraceptive counseling, vaginitis, urinary tract infection and more.
