National Midwifery Week is September 30 – October 6, 2018. National Midwifery Week was created by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) to celebrate and recognize midwives and midwife-led care. To celebrate National Midwifery Week 2018, Certified Nurse Midwives Patricia Gould, Cecelia Brown, Elise Faith, and Stephanie Barrett, of Physicians & Midwives, sat down and talked about the importance of midwifery care and why they “make a difference.”

“Midwife” is translated “with woman” and there have been midwives since the dawn of time. Physicians and Midwives is a unique collaborative practice of physicians, midwives, and nurse practitioners you won’t find anywhere else. At Physicians & Midwives, our midwives are Certified Nurse Midwives with undergraduate and advanced degrees in nursing and midwifery, as well as extensive training in Women’s Health and Obstetrics. You may schedule all of your routine GYN care with the midwives, including, but not limited to annual exams with PAP smear, birth control consults and common gynecological problems.

Physicians and Midwives Collaborative Practice offers women a variety of options for their healthcare needs. There are five locations throughout Northern Virginia (Alexandria, North Arlington, Mt. Vernon, Kingstowne, and Woodbridge) and twenty-three providers within the practice. Physicians & Midwives offers an array of services, including free pregnancy classes, a free pregnancy mobile app called Pregnancy Passport, midwifery, in-office sonograms, women wellness exams, and 24-7 in-hospital care.
